About Me
Helping students grow and succeed in music has always been my greatest passion.
I am a classical pianist from Hong Kong, currently based in Toronto, Canada. My journey as a pianist began when I was 11 years old, serving as the accompanist for my school choir at Good Hope School. With strong sight-reading skills, my teacher entrusted me with playing for rehearsals and public performances. That was the moment I discovered my natural talent for collaborative piano.
Collaborative piano became a central focus during my secondary school years, where I regularly accompanied my classmates in competitions and performances. These early experiences fostered a deep passion for both ensemble performance and music education. In 2014, I completed a Bachelor of Education (Music) from the Education University of Hong Kong, majoring in Piano, under the mentorship of Bösendorfer Artist Prof. Raymond Young. Throughout my studies, I honed my performance skills and cultivated a student-centered teaching approach, learning to engage and inspire high school students, even those without formal musical training, through meaningful musical experiences.
To further develop my performance and accompaniment skills, I have participated in masterclasses, immersion programs, and competitions in Vienna, St. Petersburg, Seattle, and Nara over the past decade. I believe lifelong learning is essential for a teacher, which motivated me to earn a Master of Arts in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020, followed by a postgraduate certificate in Museum and Cultural Management from the Centennial College in 2025. I have accompanied students in RCM examinations, competitions and performances, including the Royal Conservatory Celebration of Excellence at Mazzoleni Hall, Kiwanis Music Festival and the Markham Children’s Choir Showcase, as well as community events at Amica Bayview Village and Sharon Corners. I am also a member of the curatorial team for the exhibition B’lack Then: Muted Melodies at the Archives of Ontario, highlighting untold stories of Black musicians in Canada. Currently, I am serving as the pianist for the Chinese Canadian Choir of Toronto for the season.
Through these diverse experiences, I have gained insight into a range of teaching styles and artistic approaches, all of which continue to inform and shape my own teaching practice.
Back in Hong Kong, I accompanied music students in juries, recitals, diploma exams, school auditions, graded ABRSM music exams, and recording sessions. I also served as the pianist for seasonal choir concerts at Hong Kong International School Middle School and High School in the past decade. I am known for supporting students and musicians with urgent accompaniment requests, providing calm and confident performance even on short notice.
As an educator, I enjoy teaching students of all ages and believe that motivation is the key to learning music. Since practice can be challenging, I help students develop personalized strategies using practice record sheets, supplemental worksheets, and a focus on mindful playing. I inspire students to think critically, listen attentively, and find joy in music. Everyone learns differently, and I am committed to finding the approach that works best for each individual.
I look forward to working with you!
